Final Costume Choices for Protagonist (Meg): 1 actress, 6 scenes, 5 outfits!

Final Costume Choices for Protagonist (Meg),

I will now explain how I chose my costumes from all the choices I originally had to choose from. I now have 5 outfits for my actress to wear in 6 different scenes....

Wedding Scene: OUTFIT 1
This costume took the longest to choose since I had so many lovely outfits that could have been used for this scene. I chose this one above the others in the end as I thought the connotations were right.

This dress could look like a wedding dress when put with a veil. Also, when researching other music videos that have a wedding scene in them I noticed that the dresses used were also short and quirky.

I particularly like this dress as it has the lace the connotes innocence but the skulls which could foreshadow the death of the groom, and of course the fact that my protagonist is going to be dangerous. The skulls also put an ironic twist on the lyrics "I'm after a brand new start" since this connotes she is wanting a brand new start in a different relationship and the death of this current relationship in the scene.

I think the dress does look very nice on Meg which is great as she has to be a celebrity when promoting the overall package and therefore should look nice.

Overall the dress is a visual metaphor for my characters destructive homewrecker personality hence it suiting my video perfectly.

Journal Scene: OUTFIT 2

Originally I thought about using this dress for the date scene "I loved this dress on my artist, I think it is too plain for the date but will probably try to incorporate it elsewhere in my music video"

I have decided to incorporate this dress here because of the following reasons:
1. It looks very nice on my actress

2. Although it looks plain my artist does not need to look dressed up in this scene as she is just at her house. The outfit is quirky though with the missing shoulders which is great as this suits my alternative genre

3. Since I am trying to have a motif of Helen of Troy (the world's first ever, and arguably most famous home wrecker) in my music video the snake on the dress is very effective as this is usually associated with Helen of Troy.

Dance Scene and Helen of Troy Scene: OUTFIT 3 (WILL BE USED TWICE)

Originally this is what I posted about this dress when I considered it for the date scene: "This dress looks very sparkly and different to suit my protagonist's personality, the daring colour shows her confident personality and will convey this in my video."

I still agree that the dress is different and sparkly but I have realised it is actually ideal for the dance scene to match the other dancers outfits who are going to be wearing outfits of the ancient greek connotations.
Since my artist needs to look like Helen of Troy I had to do further research to see what her costumes looked like...

From reading Bettany Hughes' book Helen Of Troy and reading the Odyssey and watching Troy the movie I have realised that in Ancient Greece women were seen as more attractive if they had paler skin and this is why many statues were carved out in ivory etc. Helen was seen as not only white and pure but golden. She was said to have golden hair golden skin and be shimmering with al her jewels and dresses.

This is what makes this dress ideal as it is golden and does shimmer like Helen of Troy would have done. She is described as a bedazzling queen etc...

I have found a golden hairband that my protagonist may wear like Helen does in the movie. Furthermore since the dress is quite low cut is is quite sensual which is what Helen of Troy also connoted.

The dress is ideal to dance in too and to make it have connotations of ancient greece I will pin on some of the fake ivy I have to make it match the other dancers costumes and for her to stand out. Hopefully then it will be clear that my protagonist really is Helen of Troy.

Bedroom Scene: OUTFIT 4

In the end I chose this nightie out of the selection I had for my protagonist, although I preferred the more sexual outfit I thought it was unfair to ask my artist to wear this because she did feel slightly uncomfortable. That does not mean that this nightie is second best though by any means since this nightie would actually work very well in my music video, the flowers against the black could show my character's personality (the flowers are hiding her cold heart/rebellion inside). In addition the silk connotes sexuality and lust which is ideal as that is what this scene is about.

When paired up with the leather jacket the combination does not look out of place like the other nighties did look a little bit too random... The vintage look of this nightie is also a really great thing since my music video is in the alternative genre and therefore cannot be too fashionable it has to be unique and different like this nightie is.

Furthermore, I think the shots of my character walking out of the bedroom have to be very effective as they are important when she leaves the second boy heartbroken. The golden parts of this nightie could be related back to Helen of Troy being influential and the black of the nightie and indeed the leather jacket connote rebellion and evilness which is exactly what is significant about this scene.

Date Scene: OUTFIT 5

Initially I thought this dress would be suited for the dance scene and since the connotations were ideal for representing my characters personality I decided it was a must to include it, however I had to alter the dance scene to fit in with my Helen of Troy theme.

I have decided to use this dress as he black connotes my protagonist's twisted obsession along with rebellion to the typical stereotype of females getting their hearts broken by men. The ball and chain gap in the middle of the dress could represent my character locking her true emotions away so she can be a heartbreaker.

Since there will be a lot of walking and a my character will twirl in this dress it is not wasted that the skirt is very dynamic and flows beautifully, this make my protagonist look very graceful and desirable which is how I intended to make her look like on this particular scene as it is a date and she must look very attractive and beautiful.
