Research into typical magazine promo adverts

When researching and analysing magazine adverts, I came accross a number of codes and conventions used:

  • ARTIST/BAND NAME -close up for artist, longshot for band
  • NAME OF ALBUM - prominent
  • WEBSITE FOR FANS - minimalistic
  • REVIEWS - sell line from a popular music magazine, usually rated out of 5 stars
  • CD COVER ON ADVERT - to show continuity
  • WHERE TO DOWNLOAD - e.g. iTunes logo
  • DATE RELEASED - e.g. OUT NOW

The Artist/Band often look directly into the camera and are dominant throughout the splash of the advert.
The text is usually on the top and bottom of the advert however the image dominates
The text contrasts and clearly stands out against the rest of the advert

The font is very appealing on this promo since it is handwritten and adds a personal touch that the audience would appreciate. It is a close up and looks initmate with the clothing not being shown. Her expression and look into the camera is almost sexual and therefore suceeds in getting people's attention. The out now on itunes is in a small font and the website is barely readable.

This image has all of the band in but also their logo. The coulourscheme and house style of red is emulated and connotes danger. This is also fitting with the motorbikes and risque outfits to show the dangers of women and seduction.

This advert includes record labels
a strong close up of the artist and text with a website
The house style of gold black and white is continued conveying money, evilness and strength
The close up and Jessie J looking directly into the camera connotes rebellion and dominance.

This This image has all of the band in but also their logo. The coulourscheme and house style of pink connotes innocence amdf this contrasts with with the motorbikes and risque outfits to show the dangers of women and seduction. Therefore it is attractive to the eye.
